Day 4

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Katie and I went to Don-Wes Flea Market in the morning. We wanted to order some sun/wind block material for the carport. We took the measurements, picked the fabric, and now we can pick them up Saturday morning. Al is going to help me put them up.

We also got a nice hall runner carpet, they have a very large selection there.

Katie also got a new purse to replace her very good leather one that she has used for a long time.

Then it was time to go meet Sister Maureen for lunch. We went to Ann's Restaurant in San Juan. It is a large place, nice and clean, and the food is home cooked and very good. Prices are good as well. It was so good to see Sister Maureen and after hugs all around it was time for catching up and other plans.

Yes!!!! Sister Maureen is going to meet us in Mexico this afternoon so we can go see our little Vickey and all the other kids. We have far too many donated clothes to take over the bridge with us, so we will drop off those clothes to Sister Maureen at the Basilica later on. We still have plenty of things to take over though. We are going to try to take lots of pictures. We also gave two laptops I brought down to give to Ken and Vickey our other friends, so they can be refurbished and given to some 8th and 9th graders in Mexico.

I have a couple of apps on my smartphone which give one the ability to speak in English, the app translates into Spanish and speaks it aloud. I was so looking forward to using it to communicate. Then I found out you need to have a data plan for them to work and I don't have a data plan in the US...nor would I use it in Mexico in case the phone gets cloned.

But...last night I managed to find one for $4.95 which does not require an internet connection. It is a little slower but still works pretty well...so I am back in happy mode about that.

Terrible wind last night...made it difficult to sleep at times as it was really roaring...but nonetheless still ok, after all we are here and not in the snow.

We went to Larry and Shirley's for their annual Chilli Fest at 4 o'clock. We knew just about everyone there. Some of our favorite people were there and the conversation was great and lots of laughs. The food was great and the beer was cold and Larry never left you with an empty can. We thank them for inviting us and we will return the favor soon. We did not get back home until about 8:30 and just a short walk home.

well time to sort out the clothes and get ready for Mexico.

more later...
