Such a fun day yesterday....not! We spent the whole day trying to get Katie's injured foot looked after. First we went to a walk in clinic just down the street from us. The doctor there was recommended to us by a lady who runs a medical supply business. The place was fine, it was hot outside but it was nicely air conditioned and clean. Obviously this Doctor is popular as we had to wait over two hours.
We went through the process of filling out forms for being a new patient, and supplying all the insurance information, identification and so on. We also had to open a claim with the USA 1-800 number for the Insurance Company, which is this case is Blue Cross. Katie had to get on the phone with them and answer questions about how the injury occurred.
After a long wait we got to met Dr. Max Hernandez.. He hails from the Dominican Replublic. He turned out to be really good...thorough with a really good sense of humour and no sense of trying to rush you out. He gave Katie a couple of prescriptions, one for anti inflammatory and the other for pain and told her to be careful as they are addicting. He said he wasn't worried about Katie as he could tell she is smart. He is right about that one.
Then we had to go to a different location for an x-ray. They x-rayed both the ankle and the foot. Again big wait, and more screw ups with the insurance part and the inability of staff to read the requisition properly, so we had to go through the payment process twice...once for the foot...once for the ankle...ridiculous.
Then we had to drive some distance as part of the requisition for crutches. Again more waiting...more forms to fill out...more problems with insurance coverage...so in the end we had to pay in advance. Katie got her crutches though. The Doctor thought there would not be a fracture so he told us not to get the boot splint until we knew for sure, so we didn't.
We were both tired from such a trying day, so we went out for supper and then finally back home for some much deserved relaxation for Katie.
and so ends a trying day in the Valley....
more later...
