Al and Bob picked me up at 8:30, then we picked up Bill Davis so that we could go to the retired police service breakfast at Victoria Palms in Donna. They make a great breakfast. There were not as many of us as usual there, but good conversation and it is always good to see the other guys.
After breakfast Al dropped me off, and I puttered around until Katie came back from a shopping expedition with the car.
Then Katie and I went to do a bit more shopping for a few things we needed and we wanted to get a few things for the Mexican kids Karily and Libby. We also got a soccer ball for Vicky's family as their soccer ball is completely shot.
We got back at just the right time when UPS arrived with a couple of items we had ordered from Amazon.com. Then it was off to Bill and June's for an afternoon happy hour.
We didn't get home until 9PM so the happy hour was actually 5 hours. Bill and June always out do themselves preparing food and making sure that everyone has drinks in their hands. They are tremendous hosts!!! Both of them Katie and I love to pieces. They are just great people and we are lucky to be included in their lives even to a small extent.
Everyone else that is invited are also great people and I get a kick out of all of them for different reasons. Some are funny all the time without trying like Bill, others are quiet but all of a sudden will come out with something hilarious.
I just had a great time and Katie did too...it was a very fun night!
Got an email today from Ken and Vickey and also one from Sister Maureen. Vickey included a couple of pictures she had taken of Maria Guadalupe. I indicated the other day I was not so sure she understood exactly what was going on, as we caught up to her at the end of the day.
Sister Maureen and Ken and Vickey explained exactly was what going on, about her sponsor, and the fact that Katie and I were friends of her sponsor and just delivering and passing on messages. We are grateful they did that.
That's Maria and her mom who work at a tortilla shop.
The email from Ken and Vickey and Sister Maureen, indicated that they had been to Karily and Libby's house, but they did not tell Libby we were going to be her sponsors. Sr. Maureen said she is going to be so excited when she finds out. We are set to back next Thursday to see them, and we have some school supplies and presents for Libby and also for Kerillee. We are so looking forward to the visit and of course we will also see Vickey and her family.
Katie got an email from Ella who she used to work with who is enquiring about sponsoring a child.
Also Linda Connelly wants us to talk to Sr. Maureen about doing a fund raiser in the park next year to raise funds to buy uniforms for the kids to go to school, and is thinking that is a good way to help more kids. We will talk to Sister Maureen about this idea. Pretty nice of Linda to think about it and she said she is willing to organize it. Linda was one of the great people at Bill and June's tonight.
Got great news today from a friend of ours who is having an ongoing battle with Cancer. He is undergoing an experimental treatment along with Chemo for some time now. His PSA level is down significantly, his cancer has not spread, the tumour is reduced, and if things keep going like this his Chemo will be reduced and he will get a treatment holiday near the end of summer. That is great news indeed!
and so ends another great day in the Valley!
more later....
